We have tried pinging whois.com website using our server and the website returned the above results. If whois.com is down for us too there is nothing you can do except waiting. Probably the server is overloaded, down or unreachable because of a network problem, outage or a website maintenance is in progress...

says service of whois.com is down, but it's working fine for me. Why is that?

Don't worry! There are several reasons why the status shown on may not match your experience.

  • There may be a service disruption affecting only certain users. For example, there could be an isolated problem impacting only a specific feature or blocking access only for a particular region.
  • The issue reported on may have just been resolved. If so, the service status will return to normal shortly (for example, once users stop reporting the problem).
  • There may have been a false alarm. From time to time, our sources may incorrectly show signs of a service disruption when there isn't one.

Can't Access whois.com - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the whois.com site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

A website may be down because of several reasons:

  • The website is performing maintenamce. In this case, just wait for an hour and check it again.
  • The domain name has been blocked by your firewall. This firewall could be running on your computer (like ZoneAlarm, or Windows firewall) or it could be blocked by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). If the latter, you cannot do much. If the former, check your firewall and see if the website is blocked.
  • The domain name's DNS has not been setup correctly, or its name servers are not working properly. In this case, we recommend you contact the admin contact of the domain name and let him know that the website is down. You may also check the DNS configuration at SolveDNS.

Browser Related Problems

  • Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox,Chrome,Internet Explorer,Safari,Opera etc...)
  • Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser : firefox clear cache chrome clear cache internet explorer clear cache safari clear cache safari clear cache

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

  • Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system : flush dns cache in windows flush dns cache in linux flush dns cache in mac
  • If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNSor Google Public DNSare both excellent and free public DNS services.
  • Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on configure dns how to change your DNS .

Alternative unblocking whois.com methods

Our in-browser proxy technology is truly the most advanced of its kind, however there are inherent limits to what it can do. If you are unable to acccess whois.com using our unblocker above here are some alternative tricks you can try. Please note however that the methods below require that you have administrative privileges on your computer. If you are in a restricted environment you likely won't be able to follow them.

  1. Method 1: Access whois.com directly by IP address (using hosts file)
  2. On the Internet computers communicate with each other using numerical identifiers called IP addresses. Before your computer can talk to whois.com server it needs to obtain whois.com's IP address. A great deal of website blockers work by interfering with this process and misleading your computer about what whois.com's IP address is.

To bypass this type of blocking you can configure your computer to always use a predefined IP address when accessing whois.com. In order to do that, you need to edit the so called hosts file. On Windows it's "C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\hosts". On Mac OS X it's "/etc/hosts". Open this file with a text editor (Notepad on Windows, TextEdit on Mac OS X) and append the following lines to it: read more modify hosts file How do I modify my hosts file?
    # Start Unblock by downuptime.net   whois.com   www.whois.com   fonts.googleapis.com   ajax.googleapis.com   shop.whois.com   manage.whois.com

    # End Unblock by downuptime.net

(NOTE: Your computer usually needs to talk to several servers to display a modern web page. We have scanned whois.com and built the list of servers it uses which is why there's more than one line in the list above.)

  3. Method 2: Use a Proxy
  4. Proxy is the most efficient and robust block bypass method, but it might also take you more work to set up and may cost some amount of money. However if you often need to access the net from behind a blocker and care about your privacy and security it's well worth the effort and money.
